Muscles that are located in the neck and head require a nerve impulse in order to become tense or knotted. Without this nerve stimulation, the muscles are not able to tense up causing a headache or migraine.

Botox Therapeutic® is injected into the affected muscles and blocks the nerve impulse from reaching the muscles. This blockade permits the relaxation of the muscles injected and diminishes the transmission of pain signals.

Patients will notice an improvement in the frequency and severity of headaches and migraines over a 3 to 5 month period, after which time the treatment can be repeated if needed. It is unknown at this time if the benefits are cumulative with time. Onset of results is typically achieved within two weeks. Patients may choose to discontinue use of other prophylactic headache medications. Forehead frown lines and worry lines may disappear as a result of treatment.

Botox for Excessive Sweating

Everyone sweats to some degree.  However, about 1% to 2% of the world’s population suffers from excessive sweating.  Excessive sweating or hyperhidrosis is a medical condition where the amount of sweat produced is greater than usual and may occur even when the surrounding area is cool.  Although not a life threatening condition, those suffering with excessive sweating will attest that it affects their social, personal and professional lives.  The most common areas affected are the underarms, hands and feet.

There are several treatment options available to treat excessive sweating.  These include topical treatments, oral medication, low-intensity electric current (iontophoresis), surgery and focal injections.  At Ambrosia Cosmetic Clinic, we offer Botox Therapeutic® injections as an effective way of treating excessive sweating.  ‘In one study of excessive underarm sweating, 95% of patients experiences an average reduction in sweating of 83% in one week.  Plus, the effects last up to seven months on average.’

Where hyperhidrosis is a medical condition, most private insurance plans will help cover the cost of Botox Therapeutic®.
